The conversation I was supposed to have with Lou was on my mind all day yesterday. I could hardly concentrate on my work. On my way back I stopped at the wine shop and bought a bottle of red. I thought I’d have it while cooking dinner, so it will be easier for me to talk later.

I had forgotten that whenever I open a bottle of red, The Professor pops up out of nowhere and of course with Pig in tow (they are an item – totally inseparable. If you ask me, it is a case of co-dependency. But who asks me!).

These guys certainly saved Lou from his talk. They usually don’t stop at a single bottle and I had to dip into the good stuff I keep in the kitchen rack for special occasions. I left them to it and went to bed around 11pm. I don’t know what they were doing all night, but they were still hanging around when I got up this morning. The Professor gets very melancholic when he drinks and he loves to solve the problems of the world in this state. He can really talk, particularly round and round in ever decreasing circles. Pig doesn’t say much at the best of times, just holds on to his wine glass. It was all a bit too much for me last night.

This morning they both were very quiet and they moved on relatively swiftly after I made them a good strong coffee (and left me with the mess!). I haven’t seen Lou yet.

Friday is always a busy day at work. So I didn’t have much time this morning, when I put Lou’s breakfast out. I was already running late and was just finishing  wiping down the bench when he came skipping into the kitchen.

When I saw him I just blurted out: “We have to talk… tonight.” Admittedly it sounded a bit too demanding but it certainly had the right effect. He stopped in his tracks and looked at me inquiringly as if he had no clue what I wanted. I hate it when people hint at a problem and then don’t spit out what it is. In a mellower voice I said: “Scaring people is not on”. His head went down and he covered his eyes with his paws. He knows very well he was naughty. It was difficult not to laugh, but I know he knows and plays it well…. He knows he is very cute and gets away with much more than the average puppet.

Skeleton visited me again to give me this photograph of Lou as proof that he is very scary. She said, she came home from grocery shopping for Monster. (She herself doesn’t eat for obvious reasons. I learned this the hard way… First time I invited her and Monster for ice cream…. I really don’t want to talk about it!)

So, she came home from shopping. Full bags in one hand, mobile phone in the other, just finishing a conversation with her mum. She opened the door and out of the darkness jumps Lou. She dropped everything, but with incredible presence of mind took this photograph with the mobile on hand. She says it happened all in a flash… Lou got terribly excited, jumping up and down. All she could do is run for her life, leaving the bags behind and all. He was chasing her up the stairs, yelping hot on her heels. Thankfully she made it under the bed in one piece. He can’t go there, it’s too low for him, but he was panting outside for a very long time.

I look at the photograph and all I can say: I can imagine it must have been a very frightening experience for her, but I don’t want to take sides… I love them all. I guess I will have to talk to Lou.

Last night Monster and Skeleton Edeltraut popped up from the flat under the bed. They are an item since the not so amicable break-up of Monster and Deutsch Fraulein. Skeleton Edeltraut spends more time under the bed now than in the closet with the rest of her family.

Mostly they keep to themselves, but last night Monster was all chevalier and raised their concerns about my decision to take in puppy Lou. Monster says Skeleton Edeltraut fears for her safety with Lou romping around the house all day and half the night and sniffing around everywhere. Skeleton didn’t say much, just nodded every so often to support what had been said.

I see their point and I promised to talk to Lou as soon as possible. However, when they left, Monster turned around one more time and said:  “You know if you are not handling this well, it will become very unpleasant. Wait until Edletraut rustles up all her family!”

That was a threat in my opinion and he should not have said that. It would have been all good, if he had kept this to himself.

So I spoke to Witch. She is a real classical one: old and ugly. Not one of those modern witches, who try to bewitch you with their good looks, but lack the necessary experience to keep you under their spell. This ability only comes with age.

Witch is not surprised about Lou at all. She says she can understand that Lou is attracted to Skeleton Edeltraut (in his dreams). Which teenage puppy wouldn’t love to indulge in a heap of bones. But of course he has difficulties confiding in me as he regards me as a parent.

Since Edeltraut is one of my skeletons, she must be at least 100 years his senior. So there is a huge age gap. Witch and I both believe he is mistaken when he thinks what he feels is true love. He has a simple crush, but for all the wrong reasons.

Witch mixed a potion  which she said would fix Lou’s problem. I had to use a trick to get Lou to take it. I packaged it up in a nice colourful container and told him it was a new energy drink I got especially for him at the supermarket. But he took one sip only and spat it out. Then slurped down a can of his own favorite drink. I believe the potion was quite bitter. Needless to say the attempt was a total disaster. And now he won’t speak to me for an entire week.

While Lou was dancing around the house, feeling happy for a change, I took time to set up the studio and took mug shots of all the puppets that are currently in the house.  I think there are so many now, that it is difficult to keep track of them all.

They weren’t all at home, some of them are currently on show. So it is not a complete gallery. I will amend as soon as these characters come back. I renamed the Cast page into Mug shots and added a one line character description for each. Have a look….

PS: I have renamed the page yet again… Into Characters!

…I have to make this clear, I want to help Lou. Yet, I am not sure how. I have to admit, I am at a loss here. I know how important it is to have someone to pour your heart out to. Lou has made it clear to me, I am not the one he trusts in this matter. It hurts a bit, but I have to accept it!

My reader “Whichwillitbe” suggested in a comment to my post yesterday, I should introduce Lou to Philosopher. Thanks so much for the suggestion.

Not a bad idea, I thought initially – I value Philosopher’s opinion a lot. He has so much life experience. But… (and I don’t know whether “Whichwillitbe” has read the book Hermit’s Web, as this is a very big BUT!)  Philosopher is in the same boat as Lou, just at the other end of the age scale. All our friends call him The old Fool, because he is secretly in love with Deutsch Fraulein and he thinks we don’t notice. (This picture is one of my favourites from the book).  I wonder how old do you have to get for this carry-on to stop?

Anyway today is Sunday and Witch puts on Sunday dinner. I might talk to her how I could help Lou. Or does anybody else have any suggestions?

To be continued…

When I received the Sunshine Award recently, I had to think for a while whether I will participate in passing on the award or not. In the end I decided to go for it. Mainly because I appreciated the gesture of the person who gave me the award. I know she is a regular reader of my blog and judging by her likes and comments, she obviously enjoys it.

To answer the questions was relatively easy. I believe the answers say more about the people answering the question than meets the eye.

The third part was the most difficult one, passing the thing on. After a bit of deliberation I viewed passing it on as an extra acknowledgement. Not just a like for one particular post, but a big like for the entire blog for various reasons. I left some of my favourite blogs out as I assumed (assumptions are often flawed) the recipients wouldn’t appreciate the gesture. All those people who received the award from me can be sure I check their blog regularly, even if I don’t leave my mark (like). And be assured, I can very well understand if you don’t pass it on, it’s up to you :).

Unfortunately, one of my recipients got tired of receiving too many awards. There is a bit of work involved in passing an award on and to make his life easier he packaged his latest three awards into a new one: The Super Nova Blogging Star Award. The new award is given to two bloggers only and to simplify once again he bounced it back to the last two people who gave him an award. So, I got lucky again :)

The Super Nova Blogging Star Award!

I believe his intentions were to make the award system easier, by just asking one question: “Why do you blog?”. Mmmmhm. In my opinion, this question is in desperate need of the right intonation! It could be a simple innocent question (which most bloggers answer on their About page) or it could be a real anti-award statement, basically saying “I don’t get it… Why do you blog?” And then it would be anything but an award you would want to receive.

Once again, since this blogger reads my blog, I will go with the first of my two interpretations and accept the award.

The dede puppets correct answer to the question “Why do you blog?” can only be

We blog, therefore we are!

And the two new recipients of the award are… Now this depends on who wants it?

I invite you to apply for it! If you have something to say about the subject, go for it. As you have read this far I guess you must be interested, so have your say and leave me a comment. I will choose two recipients in due course!

The award was donated by Christopher Charron on his blog Off the Wall: http://christophercharron.wordpress.com/2012/06/03/more-awards/

Yesterday I finished the Fairy Godmother. While I was watching  TV, I played with her for a while, to figure out her traits. No matter how I turn her, she looks very benevolent. A good thing for a Fairy Godmother, right? However, I wanted my one to be a retired Fairy Godmother by the name of Mrs Esta Blished, but this just didn’t work out. I can’t see Esta in the finished work at all. So Mrs Blished will have to be another puppet. I definitely want her too.

This morning, when I opened the curtains in the living room, the Fairy Godmother was still lying there and she looked as if she has just awoken from sleep herself. I couldn’t resist taking her photo as she was.

I wanted to start this day by taking a photograph of a Tui. These native birds love to congregate in one of our trees in the front garden. Their beautiful song is just such an invitation to get up and get going.

Unfortunately Tuis never sit still and it wasn’t an easy task to catch one. The sun just touched the crown of the reasonably high tree. Only one of them popped up long enough for me to get a couple of mediocre shots. It’s good that I don’t need high res images, so I could crop it drastically. It’s not an artwork, it’s just to show what the birds look like with their shiny black plumage and the two curly white feathers on their throat.

I walked around the tree to get a better angle, and there I found this mean looking little cat sitting under the same tree also waiting for the Tuis. I guess he thought the song was an invitation for breakfast.
